The Krobo Bead-Making Technique:
The people of Kroboland in Ghana use an extraordinary process to create these recycled powder glass beads. By crushing recycled glass bottles and other materials into a fine powder, they carefully shape the powdered glass into molds. These molds are then baked in traditional clay kilns, resulting in beautifully translucent beads with vibrant textures and an authentic handmade finish.
Trade beads like these have played a significant role in African history, serving not only as decorative items but also as currency in trade networks across the continent. Today, these beads remain an essential element of African culture, celebrating sustainability, artistry, and tradition.
