X-Large Translucent African Trade Beads | Recycled Krobo Glass Beads

X-Large Translucent African Trade Beads | Recycled Krobo Glass Beads

Discover a beautiful NEW strand of X-large translucent powder glass African trade beads, crafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads are inspired by the look of old Venetian glass trade beads, bringing history and artistry to your collection.

Specifications:

  • Strand Length: Approximately 23" (58.5 cm) of beads
  • Bead Size: 20-22 mm in diameter
  • Material: 100% recycled glass from bottles and other items

Each bead is meticulously handmade using a unique process perfected by the Krobo people. Glass bottles and other discarded glass are crushed into a fine powder, which is then poured into clay molds. The molds are carefully baked in traditional kilns to fuse the glass powder into these exquisite beads, ensuring every strand carries the authentic touch of Krobo artistry.

The beads are completely handmade, so slight variations in size and color are part of their unique charm. YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Trade beads like these hold significant cultural and historical value in Ghana and across Africa. Historically, these beads were used as currency and played a pivotal role in trade between African regions and beyond. Today, they remain a treasured symbol of creativity, sustainability, and heritage.

Bring the rich tradition of African trade beads to your jewelry-making projects or use them as a decorative piece to celebrate Ghana’s vibrant history and artistry.
