Beautiful strand of NEW African disks glass beads, made from recycled NEW tiny SEED glass beads by the people of Kroboland (Ghana, West Africa).

  • Strand Length: 21 1/2" (54.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 13 - 14 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These stunning beads are meticulously handcrafted by skilled artisans in the Krobo region of Ghana. Utilizing small recycled glass beads as raw material, these larger beads are formed through a unique fusing process. Unlike translucent beads, these fused beads exhibit a solid and vibrant appearance, each one reflecting the rich cultural heritage of Ghana.

The creation process involves several steps:

  • Collection and Preparation: Small glass beads are collected, cleaned, and prepared for the fusing process.
  • Molding: The small beads are placed into clay molds, which determine the shape and size of the larger beads.
  • Firing: The molds are then placed in a kiln and fired at high temperatures, fusing the small beads together into a solid form.
  • Finishing: Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Krobo beads hold significant cultural value in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity. Their intricate patterns and vibrant colors make them a treasured addition to any collection.
