Discover the exquisite charm of our Fancy Powder Glass Beads, meticulously crafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads beautifully imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian trade beads, making them a stunning addition to any collection.

  • Length of strand: Approximately 26" (66 cm)
  • Bead size: Approximately 10 mm in diameter

Our beads are made from recycled bottles and other glass items, which are ground into a fine powder and then carefully molded into these attractive beads. Each bead is 100% handmade, ensuring that every strand is unique.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The Krobo people of Ghana have perfected the art of creating these fancy glass beads through a detailed and time-honored process. The technique involves using finely ground glass powder, often sourced from recycled glass, which is then placed into clay molds. The beads are decorated using glass fragments and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs.

What sets fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They may use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads.

Once decorated, the beads are fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form. This firing process ensures the durability and longevity of each bead, making them perfect for various jewelry designs and artistic projects.

Trade beads have played a significant role in the history of Ghana and Africa. These beads were historically used as a form of currency and trade, symbolizing wealth and status. Today, they continue to be cherished for their beauty and cultural significance.
