Explore the beauty and craftsmanship of NEW African trade beads, meticulously crafted from recycled glass seed beads by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These exquisite beads are tumble rounded and polished to perfection, offering a smooth surface and a vibrant appearance that stands out in any jewelry design.

  • Strand Length: 22" (56 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12 - 13 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The creation of these beads involves a fascinating technique unique to the Krobo people. The process begins with the collection of small glass seed beads, which are then cleaned and prepared. These small beads are placed into clay molds, determining the final shape and size of each larger bead. The molds are then fired at high temperatures, causing the small beads to fuse together. This technique results in non-translucent beads with a distinctive and often variegated appearance. After cooling, the beads are carefully removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Krobo beads are celebrated for their vibrant colors, intricate patterns, and cultural significance. They are often used in ceremonies and symbolize status and identity within Ghanaian society.
