Introducing our exquisite Fancy Powder Glass Beads, meticulously handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These beautiful beads imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian trade beads, adding a touch of historical elegance to your creations.

  • Strand Length: 26 3/4" (67.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 9 mm in diameter

Each bead is made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items, which are ground into a fine powder and then molded to create these stunning pieces. The beads are 100% handmade, ensuring that each strand is unique.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Decoration: What sets these fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They may use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads, resulting in truly one-of-a-kind pieces.

Firing: The decorated beads are then fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form. This technique not only enhances the durability of the beads but also ensures the vibrancy of the colors.

The technique used by the Krobo people in Ghana to produce these fancy glass beads is a testament to their rich cultural heritage. Trade beads have played a significant role in African history, serving not only as decorative items but also as a medium of exchange and a symbol of wealth and status. Today, these beads continue to be cherished for their beauty and cultural significance.
