Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of our NEW African trade beads, meticulously crafted from fused recycled glass seed beads by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. These beads are a stunning example of sustainable art, created with care and expertise.

  • Strand Length: 22" (56 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12 - 13 mm in diameter

The beads undergo a unique tumbling process, resulting in a polished, smooth surface that enhances their natural beauty. Each strand is a testament to the skill and tradition of the Krobo people.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The creation of these fused recycled glass beads is a fascinating process. Artisans in the Krobo region of Ghana start by collecting and cleaning small glass seed beads. These beads are then placed into clay molds that determine the larger beads' shape and size. The molds are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the small glass beads together to form larger beads while preserving their original vibrant colors. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

These beads are not only beautiful but also carry significant cultural importance. In Ghanaian society, Krobo beads are often used in ceremonies and serve as symbols of status and identity.
