Discover the beauty and craftsmanship of our new African trade beads, meticulously handmade by the artisans of Krobo land in Ghana, West Africa. These stunning beads are crafted from fused recycled tiny seed glass beads, showcasing vibrant colors and intricate patterns that are unique to each piece.

  • Strand Length: 22 1/2" (57 cm)
  • Bead Size: 10 - 11 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These beads are created through a fascinating process that highlights the ingenuity and tradition of the Krobo people. Small seed glass beads are collected and cleaned before being placed into clay molds. These molds determine the shape and size of the larger fused beads. The molds with the glass beads are fired at high temperatures in a kiln, fusing the smaller beads together without melting them into a homogeneous mass, resulting in vibrant, non-translucent beads with intricate patterns. Once cooled, the beads are removed from the molds and often polished to smooth out any rough edges.

Not only are these beads a testament to the creativity and skill of Ghanaian artisans, but they also hold significant cultural value, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity in Ghanaian society.
