Discover the beauty of our new translucent powder glass African trade beads, meticulously handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are a stunning imitation of old Venetian "FANCY" trade beads, showcasing vibrant patterns and intricate designs.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 21" (53.5 cm)
  • Bead Size: 12 - 13 mm in diameter

These exquisite beads are made from recycled bottles and other glass items. The glass is ground into a fine powder, placed into molds, and carefully fired to create the final product. Each bead is 100% handmade, reflecting the dedication and craftsmanship of the Krobo artisans.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

The Krobo people have a rich history of bead-making, employing traditional techniques passed down through generations. The process starts with crushing recycled glass into a fine powder, which is then meticulously placed into clay molds. Natural dyes are often added to the glass powder to create vibrant colors. After molding, the beads undergo a detailed decoration process. Artisans use glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to craft intricate patterns and vibrant designs. Metal or wooden tools may be used to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads.

The decorated beads are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the glass powder and setting the designs in place. This process gives the beads their final form, ensuring durability and beauty. The art of making these fancy Krobo beads is not just a craft but a cultural heritage that plays a significant role in African trade and traditions.
