Venetian millefiori beads, also known as mosaic beads, are made using a labor-intensive glassmaking technique that originated in Venice, Italy. Glass canes, known as murrine, are sliced into sections to reveal colorful patterns, then heated and molded into beads. These beads played a significant role in African trade, especially in regions like Ghana, where they were exchanged for goods and became cherished cultural artifacts. They are symbols of history, art, and commerce, connecting Europe and Africa in a fascinating way.
