The History and Significance of Chevron Family Beads
Venetian Chevron beads, also called Rosetta beads, originated on the island of Murano in the late 15th century. These beads were created through the cane drawing technique, where multiple layers of different colored glass were fused, pulled into long rods, cut into beads, and finally ground to reveal a beautiful star or layered pattern.
The "Speo" variation is part of this rich lineage and was primarily made in the 1800s. These beads were traded widely across Africa, serving not only as currency but as symbols of wealth, heritage, and ceremonial status.
