History & Craftsmanship

Chevron beads-also known as Rosetta beads-originated in Venice and were meticulously produced using a cane drawing process. Artisans layered different colored molten glass, typically forming five to seven layers. These canes were then drawn out and cut into beads, followed by grinding and polishing to reveal their iconic starburst design at each end.

Originally created in the late 15th century on the Venetian island of Murano, Chevron beads became one of the most valued and recognizable trade beads in Africa. Their value was so significant that they were often used as currency in trade and exchanged for goods, services, and even land. The rarity of black Chevron beads makes them especially desirable among collectors and bead historians.

Don’t miss the opportunity to own these incredible pieces of bead history.
