Rare Tabular Striped 4-Layer Chevron Beads – Antique 8–9mm

Rare Tabular Striped 4-Layer Chevron Beads – Antique 8–9mm

Offered here is a beautiful set of six rare old striped tabular Venetian Chevron trade beads, crafted with four layers of glass in a classic multi-stripe pattern. These beads are a standout for their unique flat, disc-like form and are highly collectible due to their rarity and superb craftsmanship.

Made in Murano, Venice, during the early 1900s, these tabular Chevron beads were traded widely throughout Africa and are treasured today as significant relics of that global exchange. Their striped layers and starburst ends reflect the hallmark artistry of Venetian beadmakers.

  • Size: Approximately 8 mm x 9 mm x 5 mm and 8 mm x 8 mm x 5 mm
  • Condition: Excellent – clean edges, sharp form, and no notable damage

Known interchangeably as Chevron glass beads, Old Chevron beads, Antique Chevron beads, Venetian Chevron beads, or Rosetta beads, these pieces were made using the drawn glass technique. Multiple layers of colored molten glass were fused into a star-shaped cane, drawn into rods, cut into segments, and ground at both ends to reveal their signature rosette or chevron pattern.

The tabular style, especially in this smaller size and bold striped coloration, is far less common than typical rounded forms. These beads not only make for stunning jewelry components but also serve as preserved artifacts from the vibrant bead trade that connected Europe and Africa during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
