💎 History, Value & Craftsmanship
Chevron beads, also known as Rosetta beads, were first developed in Venice in the late 15th century and produced primarily on the glassmaking island of Murano. The beads are made using the drawn glass technique-fusing multiple layers of differently colored glass, pulling them into canes, slicing them into segments, and grinding the ends to reveal a multi-pointed star pattern. These beads were widely exported and traded in Africa, where they became symbols of wealth, status, and trade value.
The 6-layer Chevrons are considered among the more intricate and valuable types of antique Venetian trade beads. This bead is a superb example of that tradition-rare, collectible, and full of history.
