This 2-layer Chevron strand is a fine example of early Venetian beadmaking. The first layer is a stunning translucent dark blue, while the second layer adds a soft contrast with white. The beads are evenly rounded, creating a smooth and elegant strand that speaks to both beauty and function. These beads were widely used in the African trade during the early 1900s, often worn as adornment or traded as valuable items.

💎 History, Value & Craftsmanship

Chevron beads-also called Rosetta beads-were first made in Venice, Italy, on the glassmaking island of Murano in the late 15th century. Produced using the drawn glass technique, artisans layered molten glass, drew it into canes, and cut them into segments, later grinding the ends to reveal star or stripe patterns. While most Chevrons are known for having four or more layers, this 2-layer version stands out for its simplicity, early production style, and unique translucent blue interior. Beads like these were highly prized in African trade networks and are now treasured by collectors worldwide.

This rare strand offers elegance, history, and authenticity in every bead.
