History, Value, and Craftsmanship of Chevron Beads
Originating from the island of Murano in Venice, Chevron beads have been crafted since the late 15th century. Made using a complex caneworking process, they typically feature multiple layers of colored glass, with the star or chevron pattern revealed through careful cutting and grinding. The intricate process and enduring beauty have made them one of the most prized trade beads in history.
These beads were highly valued throughout West Africa, where they served not just as ornaments but also as currency and symbols of status. Today, authentic antique Chevron beads like this strand are collectible treasures, sought after for their craftsmanship, rarity, and cultural significance.
