Tabular 2-Layer Venetian Chevron Beads – Cobalt Blue, 9–11mm
Offered here is a stunning set of five antique Venetian Chevron beads, crafted in a rare tabular 2-layer formation. These beautiful glass trade beads feature a translucent cobalt blue inner layer with classic white Chevron patterning, giving them a rich yet refined appearance. Their flat, disc-like shape makes them especially attractive for beadwork or collecting.
These Venetian Chevron beads were produced in Murano, Italy, and traded extensively throughout West Africa in the early 20th century. Their craftsmanship and historical trade legacy make them a sought-after item for collectors, artisans, and historians alike.
- Size: Approx. 9–11 mm in length
- Condition: Excellent – no significant chips or cracks
Also known as Antique Chevron beads, Old Chevron beads, Chevron glass beads, Rosetta beads, these tabular-style pieces are a testament to the meticulous glasswork of Venetian artisans. The making process involved layering different molten glass colors, pressing them into star-shaped molds, then slicing and grinding to reveal the chevron pattern at both ends.
The distinctive flat shape is less common and particularly valued among collectors. These beads, while decorative, were a key part of African trade networks, often used in exchange for goods, services, and as adornment by various ethnic groups across the continent.
