These antique Chevron beads were made using a meticulous glassworking technique in Venice, Italy. The method, known as the drawn cane technique, involved layering molten glass in contrasting colors around a star-shaped mold. Once cooled and hardened, the glass canes were sliced into individual beads, each revealing the intricate starburst design that Chevron beads are famous for.

Venetian Chevron beads were highly valued in Africa, often traded for gold, ivory, and other valuable commodities during the 19th and early 20th centuries. Today, they remain one of the most collectible and historically significant trade beads, admired for their beauty, craftsmanship, and cultural importance.
