New Krobo Recycled Glass Beads from Ghana – African Trade Beads
Discover a stunning strand of NEW African trade beads, handmade by the artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These recycled glass beads replicate the classic charm of old "Dutch Annular" glass trade beads, making them a unique addition to your jewelry or craft projects.
- Strand Length: Approximately 21" (53 cm) of beads.
- Bead Size: Each bead measures 11–12 mm in diameter.
Crafted entirely by hand, these beautiful beads are made using recycled glass fragments. The process involves carefully breaking glass into small pieces, placing these fragments into clay molds, and firing them at high temperatures in a kiln. The result is a unique, translucent bead with a slightly variegated appearance, reflecting the original colors of the glass fragments.
This technique, used by the talented Krobo artisans of Ghana, not only preserves the cultural significance of traditional bead-making but also promotes sustainability through recycling. In African culture, beads like these have long served as symbols of status, identity, and heritage, often used in ceremonies and trade.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
