Vibrant 7mm Powder Glass African Beads, Inspired by Venetian Trade Beads
Discover the allure of African trade beads with this beautiful strand of NEW powder glass beads, crafted by skilled artisans in Kroboland, Ghana. These beads are inspired by the intricate designs of old Venetian fancy trade beads, carrying a legacy of cultural and artistic excellence.
- Strand Length: Approx. 24 1/2" (62 cm)
- Bead Size: Approx. 7 mm in diameter
- Material: Recycled glass from bottles and other glass items
- Handmade: 100% unique and handcrafted
What sets these beads apart is their artisanal creation process. The people of Kroboland meticulously transform recycled glass bottles into stunning beads by grinding the glass into powder and placing it into handmade molds. The powdered glass is shaped into beads and then decorated using a variety of techniques.
Decoration: These fancy beads feature intricate patterns created with glass fragments, natural dyes, and powdered glass. The artisans use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs, resulting in vibrant designs that are a hallmark of Krobo craftsmanship.
Firing: Once decorated, the beads are fired in a traditional kiln at high temperatures. This step fuses the powdered glass and locks in the designs, giving each bead its durable and polished finish.
The history of African trade beads is deeply tied to commerce and cultural exchange in West Africa. These beads not only represent artistry but also the enduring traditions of the Krobo people.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
