African Trade Beads – 7mm Venetian Eye-Style Krobo Glass Beads

African Trade Beads – 7mm Venetian Eye-Style Krobo Glass Beads

Introducing a stunning strand of NEW powder glass African trade beads, expertly handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. These beads, inspired by the timeless elegance of old Venetian eye trade beads, bring vibrant design and cultural heritage to your collection.

Strand length: 27 inches (68 cm)
Bead size: Approximately 7 mm in diameter
Material: Recycled glass from bottles and other glass items

Each bead is 100% handmade, embodying the art of recycling and the rich bead-making traditions of Ghana. These eco-friendly beads are created by grinding glass into fine powder, which is then poured into molds to form the desired shapes.

Decoration

What sets these beads apart is their intricate decoration. Inspired by the eye motif of Venetian beads, artisans apply glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to achieve detailed patterns and vibrant hues. Metal or wooden tools are sometimes used to etch or paint delicate motifs onto the surface of the beads.

Firing

After decoration, the beads undergo firing in a traditional kiln. This process involves high temperatures that fuse the glass powder and lock the designs in place, giving the beads their striking, finished appearance.

Krobo Bead-Making Heritage

The Krobo people of Ghana have been crafting beads for centuries, preserving this ancient art form. Powder glass beads like these are not just decorative but are also significant in African culture and trade, symbolizing wealth, status, and connection. These Venetian eye-style beads are a testament to this enduring legacy.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
