Handmade African Trade Beads – Venetian Eye Style Powder Glass Beads
Discover the elegance of handmade African trade beads, crafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These exquisite beads are inspired by the timeless beauty of Venetian eye trade beads, combining a rich cultural heritage with eco-conscious artistry.
Strand Details:
- Length: Approximately 26.5" (67 cm) long
- Bead Size: Approximately 9 mm in diameter
Each bead is meticulously handmade using recycled glass bottles and other discarded glass materials. The glass is ground into a fine powder, poured into molds, and fired in traditional clay kilns, giving these beads their distinctive charm and sustainable origin.
Decoration: These beads showcase intricate designs and vibrant patterns that are applied with natural dyes and pigments. The artisans use tools made of metal or wood to etch or paint the motifs, creating the signature "eye" style that makes this strand a unique collector's piece.
Firing Process: After decoration, the beads are fired at high temperatures, ensuring the powdered glass fuses together, locking the designs in place and creating a durable, timeless accessory.
The production of these beads not only showcases the exceptional skills of Krobo artisans but also highlights the importance of trade beads in Ghanaian and African history. Originally used as a form of currency and cultural exchange, African trade beads continue to hold deep symbolic and artistic significance.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
