New Powder Glass Beads - African Trade Beads from Ghana

New Powder Glass Beads - African Trade Beads from Ghana

Experience the artistry of Ghanaian craftsmanship with this beautiful strand of new powder glass beads, handmade by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are designed to imitate the iconic old Venetian fancy trade beads, combining vibrant colors and intricate patterns for a truly stunning result.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 27 inches (69 cm)
  • Bead Size: 9 mm in diameter

Crafted from recycled glass bottles and other materials, the process begins with grinding the glass into a fine powder. This powder is carefully poured into hand-carved molds to shape the beads. Once molded, each bead undergoes a unique decoration process that sets these fancy beads apart. Artisans use tools and natural dyes to etch or paint intricate designs, creating vibrant and detailed motifs. The final stage involves firing the beads in a kiln, where the glass powder fuses, locking the designs into place and giving the beads their smooth, durable finish.

The importance of African trade beads spans centuries, serving as both currency and cultural symbols across the continent. Today, Krobo artisans carry on this legacy, creating beads that are not only beautiful but also environmentally conscious, as they are crafted from recycled materials.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
