Large Powder Glass Beads – African Trade Beads from Ghana, 13mm
Introducing a stunning strand of large-size African powder glass beads, meticulously handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. These exquisite beads are a modern imitation of the iconic Venetian eye trade beads, showcasing a vibrant and timeless design inspired by Africa's rich bead-making heritage.
Details:
- Strand length: Approx. 25.5 inches (64.5 cm).
- Bead size: Approx. 13 mm in diameter.
- Material: Recycled glass (handmade from bottles and other glass items).
Each bead in this strand is carefully crafted using traditional Krobo techniques. Glass bottles and other discarded glass items are ground into a fine powder, placed into molds, and fired in a kiln. The artisans then add intricate decorative patterns using natural dyes and etching tools, bringing these beads to life with vibrant colors and detailed motifs.
What sets these fancy Krobo beads apart is their unique combination of cultural significance and artistry. After decorating, the beads are fired again to fuse the powder and set the designs in place. This labor-intensive process ensures the beads' durability and showcases the rich cultural tradition of bead-making in Ghana.
Trade beads like these have long held an important place in African history, serving as symbols of wealth, status, and trade connections. Today, these beads continue to embody that legacy, adding a meaningful touch to jewelry and crafts.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
