Colorful Krobo Powder Glass Beads - Handmade African Trade Beads
Colorful Krobo Powder Glass Beads - Handmade African Trade Beads
Discover the beauty of colorful powder glass beads, handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. This exquisite strand is approximately 27 inches (69 cm) long, featuring 9 mm diameter beads, meticulously made to imitate the charm of old Venetian fancy trade beads. These beads are perfect for jewelry making, decor, or adding a touch of African elegance to any collection.
Each bead is crafted from recycled glass, including bottles, that are ground into a fine powder. The powder is carefully poured into molds, where the magic of Krobo artistry begins. Once molded, the beads are individually decorated with vibrant designs using glass fragments, natural dyes, and intricate handwork. What sets these beads apart is the detailed decoration process, as artisans often etch or paint motifs using wooden or metal tools, creating a truly unique appearance.
The beads undergo firing in a kiln, where high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the beautiful patterns permanently. The result is a strand of durable, eco-friendly beads that embody the rich cultural heritage of Ghanaian craftsmanship.
Trade beads have played a significant role in African history, serving as both decorative items and mediums of exchange. These Krobo beads honor that legacy while offering a sustainable and artistic way to celebrate African traditions.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
