Yellow Ghana Glass Beads – Powder Glass African Trade Beads
Authentic Ghanaian Powder Glass Beads – Feather Design Inspired by Venetian Trade Beads
Celebrate African craftsmanship with this vibrant strand of powder glass African trade beads, handmade by the talented artisans of Krobo in Ghana. These beads are a modern homage to historic Venetian feather beads, rich in color and character. Each bead is carefully handcrafted from recycled glass, showcasing the sustainability and creativity of African artistry.
- Strand Length: Approximately 27" (69 cm)
- Bead Size: 8–9 mm in diameter
The beads feature a striking feather-like pattern in tones of yellow, green, white, and brown symbolizing the influence of old trade beads while being entirely new in origin. This strand is perfect for collectors, jewelry designers, or anyone who appreciates the blend of heritage and innovation in handmade African beads.
Each bead is formed using the traditional mold-inlaid technique passed down through generations in Kroboland. Artisans grind recycled glass often from bottles into a fine powder, which is poured into clay molds. With meticulous attention, colorful designs are added before the molds are fired in kilns made from termite clay. This process not only revives ancestral skills but also reinforces Ghana’s position in the global story of African trade beads.
Trade beads like these have long held cultural and economic significance across Africa. Historically used as currency and a symbol of wealth, these recycled glass beads continue to serve as vibrant connectors of tradition, art, and identity.
