African Powder Glass Beads - Fancy Krobo Trade Beads, 10-11mm

African Powder Glass Beads - Fancy Krobo Trade Beads, 10-11mm

Introducing a beautiful strand of fancy African powder glass beads, handmade by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads, meticulously crafted to imitate the intricate designs of old Venetian trade beads, are a stunning example of African artistry and eco-conscious craftsmanship.

Specifications:

  • Strand length: 26 1/2" (67 cm)
  • Bead size: 10-11mm

Made entirely from recycled glass bottles and other glass items, these beads are first ground into powder, then shaped in clay molds to form their unique design. Every bead is 100% handmade, making each strand a one-of-a-kind treasure.

What sets these fancy beads apart is their intricate decoration. Artisans carefully apply colorful patterns using finely ground glass and natural dyes, sometimes etching or painting detailed motifs using wooden or metal tools. Once the designs are complete, the beads are fired in a traditional kiln, where high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the vibrant patterns permanently.

The Krobo people have perfected this art form, continuing a centuries-old tradition of creating beads that hold cultural and historical significance. Known as African trade beads, these pieces have played a vital role in trade and cultural exchange throughout Africa, symbolizing wealth, status, and connection.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
