Immerse yourself in the vibrant tradition of African trade beads with this stunning strand of new powder glass beads, handcrafted by the skilled artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads are a modern imitation of the old Venetian feather fancy glass trade beads, exuding both history and artistry.

  • Strand Length: Approximately 25 1/2" (65 cm)
  • Bead Size: Approximately 9 mm in diameter

These exquisite beads are meticulously made from recycled bottles and other glass items, which are ground into a fine powder and then placed into molds to create these beautiful pieces. The entire process is carried out by hand, ensuring each bead is unique.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

What sets fancy beads apart is the detailed decoration process. Artisans use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They may use metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads. Once decorated, the beads are fired in a kiln. The high temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final form.

The people of Kroboland have perfected this technique over generations, producing beads that are not only beautiful but also culturally significant. These beads play a crucial role in trade and social rituals across Ghana and Africa, symbolizing wealth, status, and heritage.
