Handcrafted African Brass Beads from Ghana, 28" Strand, Lost Wax

Handcrafted African Brass Beads from Ghana, 28" Strand, Lost Wax

Discover a beautiful strand of handcrafted African brass beads from the heart of Ghana, made by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti people using the traditional lost wax technique. Each bead in this strand is meticulously crafted by hand, requiring a unique wax mold that is destroyed to reveal the final bead, making each piece one-of-a-kind. These African brass beads are perfect for jewelry making or as a cultural artifact in your collection.

  • Strand length: 28 inches (71 cm) from bead to bead
  • Bead size: 8 mm to 21 mm in diameter

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These beads, made in Ghana by the Ashanti people, are the result of a centuries-old process known as the lost wax technique. This method has been passed down through generations, where a wax mold is hand-sculpted for each bead. The mold is encased in clay and fired, allowing the wax to melt away, leaving a space for molten brass to take its place. Once the metal cools, the clay is broken away, and the bead is revealed in its intricate, handmade form.

Brass beads hold deep cultural significance in Ghana, symbolizing wealth, status, and heritage. Used for personal adornment and ceremonies, they are not only beautiful but are also a piece of African history. The Ashanti people, in particular, have been crafting these brass beads for centuries, and their value endures both in traditional and modern contexts.
