Powder Glass African Trade Beads - Fancy Krobo Beads 11-12mm
Discover the exquisite craftsmanship of fancy powder glass African trade beads, handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland, Ghana. This beautiful strand is inspired by the elegant designs of old Venetian trade beads, skillfully replicated in a unique and vibrant style.
- Strand length: Approximately 26" (67 cm) long
- Bead size: 11-12 mm in diameter
Each bead is meticulously handmade from recycled glass bottles and other discarded glass items, transformed into fine powder and carefully molded to achieve their remarkable form. The resulting beads showcase exceptional artistry and sustainability, reflecting the ingenuity of Ghanaian craft traditions.
Decoration: What sets these fancy beads apart is the intricate decoration process. Artisans combine vibrant glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create complex patterns and striking designs. Using specialized tools like metal or wooden instruments, they etch or paint detailed motifs onto each bead, ensuring every strand is truly unique.
Firing: After decoration, the beads are carefully fired in a traditional kiln. High temperatures fuse the glass powder and set the designs in place, giving the beads their final, polished form. This firing process imbues the beads with a lasting vibrancy that highlights their handmade elegance.
The Krobo people of Ghana have perfected the art of bead-making over generations, creating beads that are not only stunning but also deeply significant in African trade and cultural heritage. These beads were historically used as a form of currency and remain a cherished symbol of tradition and creativity.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
