Fancy Krobo Powder Glass Beads - Ghana African Trade Beads
Introducing our stunning strand of powder glass beads, handcrafted by the talented artisans of Kroboland in Ghana, West Africa. These beads beautifully imitate old Venetian fancy trade beads, offering a touch of history and elegance to your jewelry collection.
- Strand Length: Approximately 23 1/2" (59.5 cm)
- Bead Size: Approximately 7 mm in diameter
Each bead is made from recycled glass bottles and other glass items that are meticulously ground into powder and then molded to create these exquisite beads. This eco-friendly process not only produces beautiful beads but also contributes to environmental sustainability.
The artisans in Krobo use a combination of glass fragments, powdered glass, and natural dyes to create intricate patterns and vibrant designs. They employ metal or wooden tools to etch or paint detailed motifs onto the beads, resulting in unique and captivating pieces.
Once decorated, the beads are fired in a kiln at high temperatures, which fuses the glass powder and sets the designs in place, giving the beads their final, durable form.
YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).
The technique used by the Krobo people is a testament to their rich cultural heritage and craftsmanship. Trade beads like these have played a significant role in African history, serving as a medium of exchange and a symbol of social status. Today, they continue to be cherished for their beauty and cultural significance.
