Introducing our beautiful strand of NEW African disk glass beads, crafted from recycled tiny seed glass beads by the skilled artisans of Kroboland, Ghana, West Africa. This exquisite strand measures approximately 21" (53 cm) in length, filled with unique, handmade beads that are each 10-11 mm in diameter.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

These beads are meticulously created using a fascinating traditional technique passed down through generations in the Krobo region. Here’s an insight into their intricate process:

  • Collection and Preparation: Small glass beads are gathered and cleaned.
  • Molding: The tiny glass beads are placed into clay molds which define the shape and size of the larger beads.
  • Firing: The molds with glass beads are then fired in a kiln at high temperatures, fusing the beads together into larger, solid pieces.
  • Finishing: After cooling, the beads are removed from the molds and polished to smooth out any rough edges.

These beads are not only stunning with their vibrant colors and intricate patterns but also hold cultural significance in Ghanaian society, often used in ceremonies and as symbols of status and identity.
