These Krobo beads are crafted using a unique traditional technique passed down through generations. Artisans crush recycled glass and old bottles into a fine powder, which is carefully placed into clay molds. A cassava leaf stem is inserted to create a hole, and the molds are fired in a kiln made from clay and termite mounds. The translucent finish is achieved through skillful firing, giving these beads their uncommon and striking color.
African trade beads have played a significant role in the history and culture of Ghana and the entire continent, often used as currency and in ceremonies. By purchasing these beads, you not only own a piece of this rich heritage but also support sustainable practices and the talented artisans who keep this craft alive.
