About Venetian Chevron Beads
Chevron beads, also known as Rosetta beads, are among the most iconic trade beads ever produced. These antique treasures were first made in Venice beginning in the late 15th century. Skilled Murano glassmakers used a labor-intensive method where multiple layers of differently colored glass were fused into a single cane, then ground and polished to reveal the starburst pattern that defines Chevrons.
These beads were highly prized in African trade, especially in West Africa, where they were exchanged for goods and services and used in ceremonial contexts. Their craftsmanship, age, and journey across continents make each bead a piece of history with significant collector’s value.
