History & Craftsmanship

Chevron beads, also known as Rosetta beads, originated in Venice, Italy, and were predominantly produced on the island of Murano starting in the late 15th century. These iconic beads were made through a complex process known as the "drawn cane" technique. Multiple layers of differently colored molten glass were stacked in a mold, shaped into a star-shaped cane, then drawn into long rods, cooled, sliced, and hand-polished to reveal their signature multi-layered star pattern at each end.

By the late 1800s, Chevron beads became highly valued in African trade networks. They were used as currency and worn as symbols of wealth and prestige. Green Chevrons, especially in large sizes like this one, are relatively rare and highly collectible among bead historians and enthusiasts today.

This bead is more than just an adornment-it’s a tangible piece of global history.
