These black striped wound glass beads were handmade in Venice using the lampwork technique. This ancient method involved melting glass around a metal rod, allowing for the creation of unique patterns and designs, such as the distinctive trails seen here. Lampwork beads played a key role in trade between Europe and Africa, especially in regions like Ghana, where they became part of the vibrant bead culture. These beads are not only beautiful pieces of art but also a window into the rich history of African trade and culture.
