A very nice Ashanti Akunitan ( cloth of the great ) worn by Ashanti, Fante Ghanaian chiefs in ceremonies.
The size of the cloth is 127"x 84'' ( 322 cm x 213 cm ).
The cloth dates from the 1970s.
This "appliqued" type Akunitan cloth was made on cotton fabric using applique techniques, with designs and proverbs of the Ashanti tribe, among them the sankofa, animals, African symbols and royal imagery.
The cloth is in very good condition with only some wear due to age and usage.
