Discover this stunning matching strand of old Czech tile glass trade beads, expertly crafted in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia) and used in the African trade during the mid-1900s. Bead Details:

  • Strand Length: Approximately 29 1/2" (75 cm) of beads
  • Bead Size: 5 - 6 mm in diameter

Condition:

  • Excellent: Well-preserved vintage beads with no significant damage.

The beads were made using a unique molded glass technique that originated in Bohemia, an area renowned for its centuries-old glassmaking tradition. Molded beads like these were crafted by pressing molten glass into specialized tong molds, a method perfected in the 17th and 18th centuries in Czech glasshouses. The resulting beads have a distinctive uniform shape, ensuring durability and aesthetic appeal.

Throughout history, Czech glass trade beads played a crucial role in African trade, particularly in Ghana and other West African regions. These exquisite beads were exchanged for goods and held immense cultural significance. They continue to be cherished for their historical and artistic value.
