Discover this stunning strand of authentic African trade beads, handcrafted with care by skilled artisans in Kroboland and the Ashanti region of Ghana. This unique strand features a beautiful fusion of recycled Krobo glass beads inspired by the iconic Venetian fancy trade beads and shimmering brass beads made using the ancient lost wax casting method.

Each bead is 100% handmade, giving the strand a distinct and artisanal character that reflects the deep cultural traditions of Ghana. The Krobo glass beads are made from recycled bottles and other glass materials, which are crushed into powder and then carefully poured into clay molds. These molds are fired in traditional kilns, creating vibrant, durable beads with rich colors and symbolic designs.
The brass beads are expertly made by Ashanti artisans in Kumasi using the ancient "lost wax" technique. This complex process involves sculpting a wax model for each bead, encasing it in clay, and melting the wax to leave a cavity. Molten brass is then poured into the mold, forming intricate patterns that echo centuries of craftsmanship. Each mold is destroyed after use, ensuring every bead is one-of-a-kind.
These recycled glass and brass beads are more than beautiful they carry the legacy of African trade beads, which have played a significant role in commerce, culture, and storytelling across West Africa. From decoration to currency, these beads have long served as symbols of identity and status, and they continue to connect contemporary creators and collectors with Africa’s vibrant heritage.
