History & Significance of Venetian Chevron Beads
Venetian Chevron beads, also known as Rosetta beads, were among the most prized glass trade beads in West Africa. These beads were skillfully produced using the drawn glass method in Murano, Italy, where layers of colored glass were built around a core, then cut, polished, and shaped into the desired form.
How Chevron Beads Were Made
The Chevron bead-making process involved multiple layers of molten glass being carefully applied over a central core. The layers were then shaped, cut, and polished to reveal the signature star-like pattern. This meticulous craftsmanship made each bead unique and highly valuable in trade.
