About Chevron Beads
Venetian Chevron beads were originally created in Murano, Venice using a meticulous multi-layered glassblowing and molding technique known as cane pulling. Crafted in a star-shaped mold, the bead’s layered appearance is revealed through a process of cutting and polishing the ends-resulting in the signature rosetta pattern. These beads were produced as early as the late 15th century and became a cornerstone of the African trade throughout the 18th to 20th centuries.
Due to their handmade origin, age, and scarcity-particularly in rare colors like green with murrine-Chevron beads have become highly collectible and hold significant historical and artistic value.
