Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 26.5" Strand, Lost Wax Technique

Handmade African Brass Beads from Ghana – 26.5" Strand, Lost Wax Technique

This beautiful strand of brass beads is handcrafted by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti people in Ghana, West Africa, using the ancient "Lost Wax" technique. Each bead is uniquely formed by hand, with an individual mold that is carefully destroyed to release the finished bead. The process ensures that no two beads are ever exactly alike, making each strand a one-of-a-kind piece of African craftsmanship.

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

  • Strand Length: 26 1/2 inches (67 cm) – length measured bead to bead
  • Bead Size: 8 mm to 19 mm in diameter

These 100% handmade brass beads carry deep cultural significance in Ghana, especially among the Ashanti people, who have been producing brass and bronze items for centuries. Brass beads are often used in traditional ceremonies, jewelry, and other adornments, symbolizing wealth, status, and heritage.

The lost wax casting technique, used in the making of these beads, is an ancient process that has been passed down through generations. A wax model is first hand-carved for each bead, and then encased in clay to form a mold. Once the clay is hardened, the wax is melted and drained away, leaving a hollow space into which molten brass is poured. After cooling, the mold is broken to reveal the finished bead, resulting in a highly detailed and textured surface. This labor-intensive process makes each bead a true work of art.
