Exquisite Ghanaian Brass Beads

Discover the rich tradition of African brass beadwork with this exceptional strand of round brass beads, crafted by the skilled artisans of the Ashanti in Ghana, West Africa. Each bead is meticulously made using the ancient lost wax technique, ensuring a unique piece of African heritage.

  • Length of strand: approximately 20 inches (51 cm) from bead to bead
  • Bead diameter: 17-18 mm

YOUR STRAND WILL BE IDENTICAL TO THE STRAND SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPH (GIVEN NORMAL VARIATION SINCE THESE BEADS ARE ALL COMPLETELY HANDMADE).

Each bead begins as a handmade wax model, which is encased in a clay mold. The wax is melted away, leaving a hollow mold that is then filled with molten brass. After cooling, the mold is broken to reveal the bead, making every bead irreplaceable and unique.

About the Lost Wax Technique and the Value of Brass Beads in Ghana

The lost wax process is a time-honored method dating back centuries in Africa, particularly within the Ashanti culture in Ghana. This intricate process reflects not only the artistic dedication but also the cultural significance of brass beads, which were historically used as symbols of status and as trade currency. Today, these beads are celebrated for their beauty and craftsmanship, embodying the rich history and culture of Africa.
